BCA Program Outline
Bachelor of Computer Applications is a three-year degree program, a stepping stone to the vast world of information and technology. Like any other undergraduate course, BCA also demands the completion of 10 and +2. The program helps the learners to set up a strong base for an advanced career in computer applications. A BCA degree is considered to be at par with Btech/BE degree in computer science. The program discusses topics like database management systems, operating systems, software engineering, web technology, and languages like C, C++, HTML, JAVA, etc. IGNOU’s BCA program is available for students in both online and distance modes. Online BCA admissions are taken in two sessions one in January and the other in July. The whole program includes six semesters, two semesters per year ( January to June and July to December). The lion’s share of the syllabus contains theory papers and there are only a few practice sessions. Consequently, there will be two examinations conducted every year, one after each semester. While preparing for the term-end examination the students shall make sure that they have fulfilled all the requirements like payment of the exam fee and ample attendance etc. The results of these exams will be declared within 45 days.

Admission
Online BCA admissions are conducted twice every year, one in January and the other in July. Students with a minimum of 45-50% marks in their +2 or equivalent course can undoubtedly apply for the online BCA program. Admission to the July session of the program is now open and the last date for the submission of the application form is 31st July. The important deadlines regarding the admission and registration process will be announced on the official website of the university. The students can apply for admission in two different ways. They can either visit the nearest regional center and fill out the application form from there and apply offline or it can be submitted online directly through the IGNOU’s website by completing a few procedures.

- Visit IGNOU’s official website.
- Click on the “New Registration Link”.
- Register by creating a username and password.
- Remember to jot down the username and password for the future.
- Fill up the form providing the basic details.
- Upload the documents required such as certificates, mark lists, photographs, etc…
- Read and confirm each and every detail properly before submitting.
- Once everything is verified click the submit button.
- Make the payment via net banking, credit card, and debit card.
- Take the printout of the form for future reference.

- Visit the nearest regional center and collect the application form with the prospectus.
- Fill out the application form with a blue ball pen.
- Attach a copy of the signed academic and personal documents.
- Remit the application form fee at the regional center.
- Collect the application form submission receipt from the center.
Eligibility Criteria
Bachelor of Computer Application is a three-year degree program. IGNOU conducts it in both online and distance learning modes. As it is an undergraduate program, only the learners who have passed 10+2 or equivalent and have scored 50% marks are eligible for admission. Admission Procedure
The duration of the online degree program, Bachelor of Computer Application, conducted by IGNOU is a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years. The courses of the program are scheduled semester-wise and every year constitutes 2 semesters. The total fee for the program is as follows:

Study Materials
IGNOU provides primary study materials and conducts counseling sessions for its students in connection with the learner’s support centers. The self-instructional materials are supplied to the students in the form of several booklets called blocks. The students are expected to study each unit in a session of about 4 to 6 hours. These self-instructional materials are made available both in printed and electronic form through IGNOU eContent App and the eGyankosh website. It is to be noted that studying these self-instructional materials alone won’t be sufficient to write up the assignments and prepare for the term-end examinations. The students should also do some additional readings. In the distance/online mode, learning is always student-centered. Students ought to have an active role in the teaching and learning process while the teachers act as mere facilitators. For the online BCA program, there are 6 semesters altogether.
